Empowerment

Well, in life I never really thought about empowerment because it never really occurred to me as important, but now that I have actually put some thought in depth about what empowerment means to me I think I have developed a good sense of its role from my perspective. From my knowledge I think empowerment is the courage and confidence that is gained when trying to approach an issue of some sort. Also I think the greatest obstacle to achieving steps to empowerment is when someone is not confident within them self and do not have the level of encouragement to succeed in what they are trying to pursue.
In my life I feel like I have not completely been empowered but I am on the right road to doing so. Also through my searching of becoming empowered I have realized that being empowered does not happen over night and it takes great process. However, even though I have not yet felt quiet empowered I do feel as though I do have courage and confidence but not the level as though others can look up to me as being an empowerment to them. I say this because to be empowered you have to receive empowerment from others or view their perspectives of encouragement and confidence they have within them self. This also connects with in order to be the best you have to learn from the best with being a good learner and able to adapt things from other people and their beliefs because this can make you more open-minded and willing to learn about someone else and their views on certain issues in life.
The empowerment that I do have is gained from the confidence I have in myself and I feel that from this I empower myself, I learn for myself, and I feel very accomplished when I do good things in life which makes me a better person. I do not do good things for her, him, or them, I do it for Kim'Dra because in the end every man is for themselves and represents their own beliefs and struggles not because other people tell them to but because they no they have to in order to feel good within them self. Also as a young African American female I now have to prove myself because so many people do not have self confidence and respect for their self to know that they are able to stand up and be who they want without having to be judge by other people's negativity. This comes up a lot today because so many people are concerned about impressing people rather than worrying about them self and doing things that can make them a better person also because everyone has a given name or falls under a certain category and instead of getting away from conforming they just go along with it. This is the main reason why people don’t have confidence because they are so stuck on being like everyone else rather than trying to stand out as a unique individual

  1. Kim'Dra,

I love that you used the words "courage" and "confidence" to define empowerment. These are definitely words that come to my mind when I think of being/feeling empowered.

From your blog, I get that you have a perspective on empowerment.

Your blog is a little short and is way shy of the 500-1000 words that Mr. Tim'm asked for.

You may want to consider adding some examples of times when you have felt empowered. What was this experience? How did you feel? What was the pivotal moment/event that led to you feeling empowered?

If you could add more of Kim'Dra in your blog, we could really get a better sense of YOU, what makes you tick, what drives you and obstacles that you may have overcome, to be the person you are today.

Can't wait to read more of your entries.

  2. This is a really good start, Kim'Dra. I agree with both of your points about empowerment. But you should make it more personal. Like, what is blocking YOU from being empowered right this second. Or what has blocked you if you've already reached empowerment. I know that you have really insightful things to add to conversations, and I know that if you let the world know these thoughts, you have a chance to make a difference.

  3. Thats an awesome perspective on your point of view in terms of empowerment! But I think you should elaborate on your experiences with empowerment and how you feel empowered. Giving a personal perspective allows your followers to connect with your personal experience and shows your own opinion on the topic.

  4. Great comments Ms. Sandford, Caprice, and Cynthia. Kim'Dra, you really open the door for lost of questions that could be expanded. You say yourself:
"empowerment is the courage and confidence that is gained when trying to approach an issue of some sort"
Discuss on of these issues and how your confidence and courage enabled you to be and feel empowered. I really love the mention of courage, because it's something I believe is sorely lacking among those who are not empowered. I look at the colorful graffiti wall and my expectation of this wall is that it will also reflect your "swag". Looking forward to seeing this expanded.
